At the pop show

Living a 2 hour commute away from London is never fun.
Pre-Foundation I thought: yeah sure I can suffer the 10 mins cycle, the 10 mins wait, the 1 hour 10 mins train ride, the another 10 mins wait and the half hour bus ride between home and college.
2 months into the course I've realised it's the shittiest thing one can ever experience (other than a coach ride with one of your good friends and your relationship suffers because of the ride, but that's another story). In the morning it's alright, although cramped, however the journey back you have to suffer under the wrath of  cramped carriages AND pissy commuters.

They get seriously pissy.
The 'Commuter Glare' is the worst. Or the 'Ow That Really Really Hurt' grunt - I didn't even touch you, you mong!

Another backlash is not being able to go out late. My last train leaves at half 11 and most of the good stuff in London starts at 10/11. So what do I do on Halloween night?

Go out fucking partying.

YEAH!

Then at about half 1 or 2 (not too sure, the clocks went back) I realise I have no way of getting home. Logically I should ask one of my wonderful friends to see whether I can crash at theirs as I have no way of getting home.
Retardedly I decide to lie that I'm going home and then take some of London's many night buses up and down the town until the first train on a Sunday morning home.

I don't know where I went that night.
And I didn't know when I was sleeping or not.
But the buses kept me warm and I wasn't considering lowering myself to sleeping on the streets when I have a season ticket valid until December! Duh!

Finally at 7am I arrived in a daze near Putney station. Walked up the hill. Then walked down again realising the station wasn't that way. Waited for the train. Got on the train. Slept through my stop. Took the train going back the other way to my stop. Walked home. Had a piss. Went to bed.

I hadn't had a wash since the previous morning.

I am never doing that again. Ever.

Due to this experience (and also many other factors), I'm intending to move up to London in January.

So if you have any room for someone who just wants to do some art sometimes and then party the other times, please email me at conglats@gmail.com . I don't take up that much room and can tidy up my own mess when asked to.

Thanks for looking!

Oh and the actor of Dobby from Peep Show was at the club we went to too! How cool is that?

Anecdote

Never have I enjoyed eating falafel until my new Camberwell College of Arts friend and I stopped to get his lunch at "Falafel - Lebanese Restaurant" two weeks back.
He bought a falafel sandwich, (basically a toasted wrap with microwaved falafel, onions, tomato, and sauces) which I had the remaining inch of, since he was full and wasn't fond of the falafels as he has "eaten better falafels". Well I have only ever eaten supermarket falafel, meanwhile he lives in Notting Hill, which kinda figures why it was the best falafel I had ever eaten.

Falafel.

So today I decided to buy my own falafel sandwich and eat it in Camberwell Green.
No sooner had I sat down on the backless bench a woman in her 60s sat down next to me.
Here is the conversation we had:

"That's my boyfriend over there," she said, pointing at the bony man only slightly older that her, appearing to be rooting through a bin near the bus stop.
"Oh yeah? Well do you want me to move up so that he can sit down next to you?"
I shift further away from this woman.
"That'd be nice."
There's a pause. I bite into my sandwich.
"Do you have any money for food?"
"No," I replied whilst still eating my sandwich.
"Oh."
Another pause. She sniffs in the direction of my sandwich.
"That smells nice. What is it?"
"Falafel sandwich."
"What's inside it? Prawn?"
"No, falafel."
A pause. Then thinking up a quick (but polite) escape route, I look at my phone.
"Oh shit...I didn't realise the time. I've got to get the bus. Well it was nice meeting you, see ya."
I head towards any bus stop.
The boyfriend never came to sit down.

Out of 10, I'm going to give her a 6 for conversational skills: she was a well-groomed and non-smelly tramp but she just hasn't figured out a way of asking for food from a stranger without sounding impolite and can only follow half of the conversation. There's room for improvement.

I'm giving myself a 6 for complete bluntness in handling the fact she may have actually needed some food and I have the power to give her some (even though she appeared well-fed) and for a poor excuse for leaving the conversation. But I did have some manners by making space for the boyfriend.

Oh, falafel.

Mittler

I want you to meet one of my friends, blogger extraordinaire:

C.J. is fucking rad.

We have such amusing conversations presque tous les nuits for 2 hours at a time on Skype.

At least we try to. But malheureusement we always have such a shit connection and Skype keeps saying 'your computer is retarded'. As a result, most of our conversations are stuttery, constantly disconnecting and
fucking loss of sound (but that's mainly due to her computer).

However there are advantages to these issues:
  • More facial expressions are required to communicate due to the lack of sound, and humourous facial expressions humour us greatly
  • We play games like 'Are We Playing Moving Statues Or Has My Computer Frozen?'
  • Miming and overemphasized nods and shakes of heads are a high-point of my day
  • Taking retarded snapshots so that certain faces last longer

Such fun.

The picture seen above, by the way, shows off one of the most famous faces a C.J. can pull.
I like to call it 'The Thinking Face'.
This is the face that happens when she is thinking so hard it nearly kills her.
But it doesn't.

By the way she has this smashing blog that she writes called 'Verbal Abuse', mainly featuring all the shit that happens to her on a daily basis.
Here's the link:

And when you put all of the faces of C.J. together, you can make something like this:

De plus...

Keeping on the Gareth Pugh theme, watch this one, showcasing his A/W 2010 collection.

MARTY, WE'VE GOT TO GET YOU BACK TO THE FUTURE!

I'm going to start with a link.

LINK

Now, so you don't feel like I'm going to send you to a virus-ridden site, I'll give you a brief description of the said link The link will send you to a video of Gareth Pugh's 2011 S/S Womenswear collection.

Why?

Because I like it. And so should you.

I'm starting to appreciate a number of art forms now. Originally I psyched myself on Graphic Design, but then I stopped feeling so sure, opening options to study Illustration at degree level as well.
However I've recently got into Fashion.
I blame it on this bitch:

Her haute couture excited and impressed me, making me curious to discover new fashion designers, which I did (hence the link above).
However, I'm now thinking of doing a fine art, as (despite most art drivel originating from the field) the limits for creativity are endless.

Why am I so fucking worried about specialising?

Because I have to look for unis to do degrees at, even though I'm only a month into my Foundation course. Why now? Because most unis have open days in October. Why don't you go to them without hindrance? Because most Open Days require you to go to one specific specialism talk on the day and I don't know what I want to specialise in!
Unfair.
Why worry today? Well I went to Leeds College of Art today for their Graphic Design Open Day and concluded two things:
  1. Everyone eventually ends up working in London, so why move up north when I could be studying in London at degree level?
  2. I don't know whether I still want to pursue a career in Graphic Design..
Let's just see what happens.

PS: Collective C.J/Germanotti is on.
